Ikea is teaming up with a Swedish designer for its newest assortment, and the primary product being teased is a devoted plate for Ikea’s biggest product: meatballs. The 12-piece Gustaf Westman assortment that’s launching on September ninth features a chunky blue serving dish that’s formed to suit precisely 11 of the scrumptious morsels “in a celebratory row.”
“I really like designing objects for a selected operate – it brings a contact of humor and makes them immediately straightforward to know. In Sweden, meatballs imply Christmas, and this plate is my method of honoring that custom,” says Westman. “The design is easy, lining up the meatballs so each is seen, like they’re sitting on little thrones. And whereas it was created with meatballs in thoughts, it really works simply as nicely for a lot of different dishes.”
I’m already an enormous fan of Westman’s signature playful model, and I believe it pairs superbly with Ikea’s model aesthetic. Even the five-step instruction guide for this meatball plate is equal elements amusing and charming. I’m going to attempt (and certain fail) to persuade myself that I don’t want a dish for displaying meatballs at no matter price ticket it will get upon launch.
