    Fortnite maker Epic Games settles antitrust case against Samsung

    Fortnite maker Epic Video games has settled its antitrust case towards Samsung, in keeping with a court docket submitting. The case, filed final September, accused Samsung of working with Google to dam rival app shops by default on Samsung telephones.

    “We’re dismissing our court docket case towards Samsung following the events’ discussions,” Epic CEO Tim Sweeney stated in a put up on X. He added, “We’re grateful that Samsung will deal with Epic’s issues.”

    An Epic spokesperson declined additional remark, pointing to Sweeney’s put up. Samsung and Google didn’t reply to TechCrunch’s request for remark.

    Epic had alleged within the lawsuit that Samsung’s “Auto Blocker” characteristic, which blocked downloads exterior of the Google Play Retailer and Samsung Galaxy Retailer, was a coordinated effort to dam competitors in app distribution.

    On the time, Google known as Epic’s authorized motion “meritless,” saying, “Android system makers are free to take their very own steps to maintain their customers protected and safe.” Samsung stated it deliberate to “vigorously contest Epic Recreation’s baseless claims.”

    The settlement comes virtually a yr after Epic launched its personal cellular app retailer to distribute each its personal video games and third-party titles.

    Earlier than suing Samsung, Epic gained a separate antitrust case towards Google in 2023 over claims that Google’s app retailer practices constituted an unlawful monopoly. A decide ordered Google to open its app retailer to rivals, although a call on Google’s enchantment remains to be pending.
