LA-based studio Bien, which focuses on stay motion, movement design and character animation, created a one-minute 3D-animated standalone brief to advertise the brief documentary, Quad Life.
Quad Life follows sound designer David Jeffers as he navigates life after a spinal wire damage. “We wished viewers to know David at first modified,” says Hung Le, Bien’s inventive director and co-founder. “For the reason that documentary focuses on his life after the accident, we knew we wanted to shortly give the viewers some context and seize his power, spirit and journey in a single sweep.”
The brief options clay-like characters and focuses on 5 formative milestones from Jeffers’ life: adventurer, tinkerer, romantic, engineer and devoted father. Every of those moments is impressed by in-depth interviews and delivered to life with stark, cinematic 3D animation. This piece — which acts as a social teaser and a prequel to the movie — is designed to resonate with audiences and trade insiders alike.
“For the conceptual teaser, we had a couple of challenges that every one stemmed from the fact of operating a movement design and animation studio,” explains Le. “We knew we couldn’t block off your entire workforce for months on finish to dedicate to this undertaking, and stylistically, we knew that we couldn’t do one thing tremendous advanced. We needed to design a workflow that would pause and restart. Due to that, we settled on the sculpted look. Due to David’s incapacity, we thought we may lean into two supplies: concrete for its rigidity, and clay for its malleability.”
Bien’s workforce referred to as on Maxon’s Cinema 4D and Redshift to create the teaser.
