This month, alt-country musician and neighborhood organizer Sara Trunzo launched One Small Step, a music impressed by WERU’s participation within the OSS Hubs program. Commissioned by WERU, the observe was written and carried out by Trunzo, who took a singular strategy to seize the essence of this system via “documentary songwriting.”
Sara immersed herself within the OSS expertise by listening to archived conversations and interviewing native facilitators, pulling direct language, phrasing, and rhythms from the non-public tales that make up this system. The result’s a heartfelt, regionally grounded music that embodies the spirit of each the Maine neighborhood and the broader mission of One Small Step.
Whereas the lyrics are deeply linked to Maine’s panorama and WERU’s journey, Sara’s aim is for the music to resonate past the station, serving to to raise and encourage different communities concerned within the OSS program.
